AFM® is an amorphous alumino-silicate manufactured by up-cycling recycled green glass. AFM® is a direct replacement for filter sand and used in most types of sand filters. The particle size distribution is tightly controlled within tight tolerances. The controlled sphericity and uniformity co-efficient of the grains maximise particle filtration. The optimised uniformity co-efficient maximises filtration performance without causing pressure drops or bed lensing effects.

Activated carbon is manufactured from a carbon source such as coal or coconut shell. The activation process creates a porous structure with very high surface area which is available for adsorption and chemical reactions. The micro-porous structure of activated carbon creates a surface area more than 500 m2/gram. This high surface area provides GAC the ability to accumulate large amounts of contaminants.

The below grades of activated carbon can be supplied.

  • Coal based activated carbon
  • Coconut shell based activated carbon
  • Acid washed activated carbon

Anthracite is a high purity coal with approximately 96% carbon content. The filter media is graded and sized to suit the application. It can be used as the sole media in a filter, but is typically used as the upper strata together with sand and garnet to produce a multi-layer filter bed. A layered filter bed increases the available depth to capture solids and increases run times between backwash sequences.

Turbidex™ is a high surface area alumino-silicate mineral that provides exceptional suspended solids filtration. The macro-porous nature of Turbidex™ make it an ideal media for any application where solids removal is essential.

Garnet is a high hardness, high density granular filter media. Garnet's high bulk density allows it to act as an effective bottom layer in a MMF bed.

Various grades of sand and gravel are available for a broad range of applications in filter beds. Sand of various sizes can be used as filter media depending on the application. Gravel is typically used as a base layer in a filter to support pipework and distribute the flow effectively across the full area of a filter.

  • Arsenic reduction

Bayoxide® is an iron oxyhydroxide media that removes arsenic from water via adsorption onto its surfaces. The media has a high capacity for arsenic providing long operating cycles and low operating costs. The media’s useful life is dependent on site-specific water quality and operating levels. The exhausted media is non-hazardous and can be sent to landfill.

Bone char is manufactured through heat treating cow bones in low oxygen concentration which drives off the organic material leaving activated carbon and tricalcium phosphate. Bone char is an ideal media for the removal of heavy metals from a water source.

BIRM® is an acronym for Back-washable Iron Removal Media. It is a manganese dioxide coated aluminium silicate granular filter media for the efficient removal of dissolved iron and manganese from water supplies. BIRM® acts as an insoluble catalyst that accelerates the reaction between dissolved oxygen and iron/manganese. BIRM® requires the water to be free of hydrogen sulphide, low organic matter and a dissolved oxygen content equal to 15% of the iron content. For iron removal, the water pH must be greater than 6.8 and for manganese removal the pH must be between 8.0 and 9.0.

Filox-R™ is a high-performance media for the removal of dissolved iron, manganese and hydrogen sulphide from water supplies.  Filox-R™ requires a dissolved oxygen content equal to 15% of the iron and manganese content. For iron removal the water pH must be more than 7.0 and for manganese removal a pH of greater than 8.0 is required. The use of oxidising agents is highly recommended and the water should have an ORP of more than 170 mV. Low ORP or highly reducing water will cause premature exhaustion of the media.

Juraperle is a granular media made up predominantly of calcium carbonate in a micro-crystalline structure. In acidic water conditions Juraperle will raise the pH to 7.0 by neutralising the acidic properties of the water. Juraperle can also be used to re-mineralise RO permeate or low TDS water to achieve desired taste qualities. Through the neutralisation or remineralisation processes the Juraperle dissolves and will slowly become depleted. The Juraperle will require occasional replenishment.
